David Rosenbaum joins IE Law Group

Interactive Entertainment Law Group Expands with Addition of Veteran Games Industry Attorney, David Rosenbaum

LOS ANGELES, April 7, 2017 –

In less than four years since the opening of the Interactive Entertainment Law Group, the firm continues its expansion and is pleased to announce that industry veteran David Rosenbaum will join as Partner.

Rosenbaum has a wide-ranging international law practice, advising clients from around the world in matters such as developing and publishing games and related technology licensing; mergers and acquisitions in the game industry; licensing of brands, character, comic book, entertainment and sports properties; film and TV distribution; and book publishing. Rosenbaum has represented leading publishers and developers of video and computer games, as well as property owners licensing game/digital rights.  Among the more notable games produced by Rosenbaum’s clients are “Words With Friends,” “Fieldrunners,” “Color Switch,” “Growtopia,” “The Witcher 2” and “The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.”

“I’ve been across the table from David on a number of deals and have worked side-by-side with him when we co-founded the Video Game Bar Association, and I have always had the highest level of respect and admiration for his legal acumen and his personal integrity. As we continue to build our global practice, adding David to the team reaffirms the IE Law Group as one of the leading law practices in the games business regardless of size,” said Patrick Sweeney, founder of the IE Law Group.

“Patrick and I have been ‘friendly competitors’ for many years, and we actually talked about forming a firm a number of years ago, but the timing didn’t quite work out,” said Rosenbaum, adding “joining the IE Law Group achieves that vision and I am excited to be contributing to the continued success of the IE Law Group.”

Rosenbaum has practiced law in the entertainment industry since 1981. From 1981 to 1993, he held in-house legal positions at Paramount Pictures, where he counseled on a wide variety of legal matters ranging from production, marketing and distribution of motion pictures to licensing and merchandising of character and entertainment properties. In 1986, he was promoted to Vice President of Legal Affairs for Paramount’s Marketing Division and was in charge of the legal and business affairs of Paramount’s Licensing Department, where he began to do deals in the video game industry in the late 1980s.  He left Paramount in 1993 with the intention of building a law practice representing companies working in the video game industry and has worked in the video game industry ever since.  Most recently, Rosenbaum was the founder and principal of the Rosenbaum Law Group, and a Senior Partner in the Interactive Entertainment and Video Game Practice at Gerard Fox Law.
